I think Huck is a beagle/hound mix. I was an employee at an animal shelter. The local police department pulled over a U-Haul truck and when they looked in the back found that they man driving the truck had over 30 dogs in the back. They were all sick with the Parvo virus or other diseases or injuries. Many of those dogs were too sick to be saved. We and some rescue groups tried to save the healthier-looking ones, but few survived. The only known survivor that I know if was the puppy that we at the shelter had named Huckleberry Hound. Huck lived at the shelter for three months. The reason he was kept there so long because we had to make sure that he did not get any of the diseases that the other dogs had. Eventually, it was obvious he was not going to be sick so we took him out of the health isolation ward. But Huck never went up for adoption. Eventually, I decided I would take him home. Huck isn’t the smartest dog in the world, but he is well-behaved and extremely cute. For those of you who don’t know how we came up with the name “Huckleberry Hound” for this dog, feel free to Google it.
